What is the airspace situation for pilots near Almaty?
You are flying beside a major international airport and Kazakh airspace is not in the app on your phone. The AIP is the only authoritative document. We brief boundaries every morning and mark what we are unsure about.
In detail
This is the single most important thing to understand about flying here, and it is the reason Almaty is both the region's most convenient base and its most constrained.
Almaty has a major international airport with the traffic that implies. The usable free-flight corridors are narrower than anywhere in Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakh aeronautical information is not available in the app you use at home. The Kazakh AIP is the authoritative document and nothing else substitutes for it.
What we do: every morning, on a map, we brief the boundaries as we understand them, and we explicitly mark the parts we are not sure about as unsure. That is a service, not a clearance. If your task touches controlled airspace it is your responsibility and your licence, and a busted airspace next to an international approach is a category of problem that a good retrieval driver cannot fix.
The practical consequence for route planning: the useful XC direction out of Ushkonyr is east along the range front, not north over the steppe towards the city and the airport. That is also where the roads are, which is convenient — see how retrieval works.

Tell us what you fly
Send your rating, hours, personal best and last SIV, and you get a specific answer — a route and a retrieval zone, not a brochure. A person reads it and answers within one working day.
Or just get the season report
One email at the end of each season with the flyable days we actually logged, and one more if the SIV course opens. Nothing else, ever.
